About the Baker Hughes Drilling Rig Count Report

Each Friday, at 1:00 p.m. EST, Baker Hughes releases the North American rig count report.  The report tracks onshore and offshore natural gas and oil drilling rig counts in the United States and Canada.

In addition to tracking by geographic region, the report also provides highlights of drilling rig increases or decreases by state and by type of rig (directional, horizontal and vertical).

The weekly Baker Hughes Rig Counts are  an important barometer for drilling activity.  A rise or decline in drilling activity is deemed a leading indicator for the demand of not only natural gas and oil, but also for the demand for other products used in drilling, completing, producing and processing hydrocarbons.
